ASUN🥣 HEALTHY EATING ~ Naija Style 🍽 By Victoria Francis.

Happy Weekend lovelies❤️

It’s a beautiful day. What would you like for lunch?

I thought of something (it’s been on my mind lately)👉 ASUN

Sounds yummy, right?😉🤤

I know you’re wondering what it is. This is a well-known Yoruba delicacy made of grilled/barbecued and deliciously spiced goat meat. Asun is a Nigerian cuisine commonly seen in _Owambe_ parties and trust me, those parties are really not complete without it. Mind you, this delicacy is mouth-watering and you might wanna prepare it after your first try. Who knows, you might prepare Asun every blessed week?😉 Not only is Asun yummy, it’s also healthy, very rich in protein and vitamin C. That’s a complete package, already!

This delicacy uses habenero pepper, but I’ll go with bell pepper. So sit tight, while I share with you some tips for cooking goat meat, then we move on to our recipes and procedures.

TIP.

  • Do not add water when cooking goat meat. It gives off a lot of liquid and it will cook in its own juice. NB:Some goat meat are tough and so if they’re not tender after cooking, simply add a little water and allow to cook again until tender.
  • Cook on medium-low heat.
  • Make sure you cover your pot properly so as to trap the heat and moisture and prevent the goat meat from drying out.

Recipe Ingredients.

  • 1kg cooked and grilled goat meat
  • Green and red bell pepper (as desired)
  • 2 Large onions (in big chunks)
  • 3 stock cubes
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tsp bush onion (optional)
  • Vegetable oil.
  • Salt to taste

Recipe Procedures.

  1. Cut the goat meat into bite-size chunks. Make sure you cut the chunks with the goat skin.
  2. Wash and put them in a pot.
  3. Season well with thyme, coarsely blended or chopped peppers, stock cubes, chopped half onion (medium dice) and salt. Stir properly and start cooking on medium-low heat until ready.
  4. Then chop the remaining onions (big chunks) and add to the meat. Also, add bush onion (crushed) and little vegetable oil. Stir thoroughly and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  5. Add some more chopped green and red bell pepper, stir and cook until the juice dries (but not burnt).

Your Asun is ready!
