BREAD BASKET FOR AGED

The aging of the population is faster than in the past.

According to the WHO, in 2020, the number of people aged 60 or over exceeded that of children under the age of five (5).

Biologically, aging is the product of the accumulation of a wide range of molecular and cellular damage over time. This leads to the following health problems:

hearing loss;

cataracts and refractive errors;

lumbago and neck pain;

osteoarthritis;

chronic obstructive pulmonary disease;

diabetes;

the Depression;

Madness;

Beyond biological changes, aging is also associated with other life transitions such as retirement, relocation to more suitable housing, and the death of friends or partners.

Thus, all countries must meet major challenges to prepare their social and health systems to make the most of this demographic change.

Here in Ghana, the NGO 1st Day Foundation in partnership with the religious organization ICGC Mpohor organizes every year including last year programs of donation of food products and toiletries for people over 60 years old.

Indeed, about 99% of these elderly people do not have a pension plan to support them. And it is our duty to react to this situation.

During this donation campaign, we reached more than 200 people with a budget of $500 or 6,200 cedis.

It was really nice to be able to give a smile to someone who needed it.

Thank you for any help you give us, because it has a tangible impact in someone’s life.

LET’S PUT SMILES ON PEOPLE’S FACES.
